Service & Leadership
Leading the Way
Students have many opportunities throughout their time at Saint Joan of Arc to develop lifelong skills in leadership as well as give back to the communities with service projects and programs. Learning effective communication skills, how to navigate working in groups, fundraising and mentoring are just some of the areas students develop as they learn the importance of being part of a global community.
Altar Servers
Grades 5-8
Boys and girls can train to become altar servers in fifth grade. They can then assist with the liturgical ministry once training is complete. Altar servers assist both during school masses and weekend masses.
Student Council
Lead by seventh and eighth grade officers, the Student Council organizes several charitable drives and community service activities throughout the school year. Monies raised have been donated to Catholic schools impacted by horrible storms. Food drives have assisted those marginalized, diaper donations have benefited Geauga County Family Services, and candy and comfort items, have been collected for troops overseas, just to name a few of the many service projects.
Breakfast of Champions
Grades 6-8
Every Thursday in Lent, junior high students are invited to attend “Breakfast of Champions.” The morning begins with 8:00AM mass and breakfast follows in the Parish Hall where students listen to community leaders who share their Faith. It is the goal of St. Joan of Arc Catholic School to make faith conscious, positive and active through education.
Eighth Grade Buddies
Kindergarten and 8th Grade
At the beginning of each school year, kindergarteners get matched-up with an eighth-grade buddy. Throughout the year, the classes work together in a variety of ways; they sit together at mass, they make things like gingerbread houses together, they play sight word bingo and they participate in scavenger hunts. The eighth graders learn patience as they assist their buddies in reading. The eighth graders also love creating a storybook for each of their buddies each year. Both classes love this special time they spend together each week.
Student-Produced Morning Announcements
Grades 7 and 8
Seventh & Eighth graders work with the principal to produce morning announcements. Each morning, junior high students use professional-quality equipment to film and broadcast the morning announcements live to every classroom. Students take turns being in front of and behind the camera.
