Makerspace

Our makerspace is dedicated to inspiring creativity and a love of technology in our students. From 3D printers and a laser cutter to Cricut machines, our unique makerspace classroom allows students to bring their imagination to life. Our primary grades are able to use small educational robots to learn the beginnings of coding. For our older students, their technology classes and makerspace elective incorporates the strong basis of STEM education that they get in the younger grades, leading them to create phenomenal projects and use our cutting-edge technology to solve real-world problems.

Olsavsky Center

This space is home to our cafeteria, gymnasium and auditorium. Named for Fr. John R. Olsavsky, Pastor of SJA from 1988-2006, this area is always a hub of activity. Physical Education classes utilize this space for volleyball, pickleball, and other games all week, while the gymnasium hosts CYO volleyball and basketball games on the weekends. With a new sound system installed in 2023, the school and parish can use the video screen and microphones for events throughout the year. SJA is fortunate to have Mrs. Kim Kocianic, our cafeteria manager, prepare hot lunches for the students. This optional daily lunch program always has fresh fruit and vegetables on the menu.

Music Room

This colorful space hosts general music classes for students in Grades K-8, in addition to band lessons for interested students in Grades 4-8. The beginning and advanced bands perform at least twice a year for their classmates and families. All students receive instruction in the recorder in Grades 3-4 and ukulele in Grades 6-8. Our enthusiastic band and Music teacher, Mrs. Laura Kennedy, ensures that all students find success in her classroom.

Science Lab

With microscopes and an incubator, among other equipment, students of all ages can learn more about the beautiful world that God created for us. The space also hosts the dissection elective for our middle school students. Featuring standard lab benches, safety equipment, and natural lighting, this classroom is primed to foster the STEM innovators of the next generation.

Art Studio

Tall ceilings and plenty of natural light help make this space ideal for drawing and learning the fundamentals of art. All students participate in weekly art classes designed to bring out the creativity of each student. Dedicated tables, drying racks, and storage space leave plenty of room for students to let their artistic side soar, and our art teacher helps students to reach their full potential while instilling a love and understanding of art as a whole.

Additionally, St. Joan of Arc uses Artsonia, a digital collection of student art. St. Joan of Arc has its own school gallery within the Artsonia website. Each student at SJA has an individual online portfolio of artwork they create in art class. Photographs of each student’s artwork are added each school year. SJA also receives 20% of the funds from Artsonia purchases to use in the art program.

Playground

Our school is fortunate to have a large backyard space for students to play and enjoy recess together. Not only is it safely secluded from the road, it offers green space, a playground, and outdoor classroom. Due to the generosity of our PTO, we will be resurfacing and adding additional equipment over the summer of 2025.
