|
FYI: It is recommended (recommendation is from the Dietary Guidelines
for Americans 2005) that children and adolescents participate in at
least 60 minutes of physical activity most days of the week, preferably
every day. Children and adolescents should choose a physical activity
level of moderate to high intensity, such as playing tag, brisk
walking, cycling, jumping rope, swimming, or running etc. Regular physical activity benefits all aspects of health (not only the physical, but the mental, emotional, and social aspects as well). Through regular physical activity, children and adolescents can experience positive effects on weight, muscular strength, cardiorespiratory (aerobic) fitness, bone mass (through weight-bearing physical activities), blood pressure (for hypertensive youth), anxiety and stress, and self-esteem. It is important that children and adolescents are encouraged to be physically active by doing things that interest them. This will help them to establish an active lifestyle early on, which will then hopefully continue throughout their entire lifetime. |

Physical Activity Log Criteria: |
| * Just a reminder that the physical activity logs are due weekly. Grades (k-3), Please
remember to bring your activity log each week to class. I have not
graded any logs yet because I want you to establish a routine. The logs
will start to count for a grade so please bring them to class. Grades (4-8) Keep up the good work and continue to bring in your logs weekly. *All students (K - 8th grade) are required to track their physical activities for each week. Be sure to fill out the Physical Activity Log sheet correctly = name, grade, week beginning (Monday's date), the activities by day, the amount of time (in minutes) of each activity, and your parent/guardian's signature. *The minimum goal for students in grades k-5 should be at least 30 minutes a day "3" days a week. The minimum goal for students in grades 6-8 is at least 30 minutes a day "5" days a week. (challenge yourself to reach the higher recommended levels!) You may include your gym time. Your grade will be based on the number of days you participate in activities as well as the number of minutes. Each log is worth 10 points of your weekly grade. Log sheets are due every week on the day you have gym class. |
