Happy Summer!!
Dear Families,
Summer vacation is almost here -
the time the children have been waiting for! And why not? They really
worked hard all year and deserve a break. At this time I would
like to thank you for your cooperation and hard work with them at home.
Without your help and reinforcement this year would not have been
such a success. The children wouldn’t have done so well.
Please continue to help them
during the summer. Encourage them to read and please read to them. The
librarians are very willing to help children find an exciting book at
their reading and interest level. Also, continue to practice our sight
words and search for them in the books you read.
There are many possibilities for
summer drill. Here are a few suggestions. While they are riding in a
car or helping with chores is a great time for fun-drill games: see how
many rhyming words or words beginning with a particular consonant they
can name in a minute. Play “I Spy” by spelling the name of something in
the room and they guess it. Play “ I’m Going on a Picnic/Trip” by
building a general list of things to take (or just a particular
letter sound).
In addition they could cut
up old magazines and newspapers to collect the alphabet letters and
make words or sentences from them. Making lists of “Math Facts I
Know”, “Words I know How to Read” or “Words I can Spell” can be fun as
you watch them grow.
I have really enjoyed working
with your children. They are a fun and ambitious group and have
accomplished so much this year.
Have a happy and safe summer.
Sincerely,
Mrs.
