Weekly Newsletter for St. Joan of Arc Kindergarten Students          May 19, 2008

Last Week
We continued working with the zoo theme. We talked about the different zoo animals and what we knew about them and what we wanted to learn. We talked about jungle animals, desert animals, tree animals, pets and their habitats. On Friday, both the kindergarten and the eighth grade had a delightful day at the zoo. Telling time to the hour was practiced. Continue practicing addition and subtraction facts to ten daily. Shoes Like Miss Alice's provided us with listening, writing and comprehension activities. Long i provided us with phonics activities.

This Week
We will continue telling time to the hour. Pennies, nickels and dimes will be introduced. We will begin gathering our information for student lead conferences. We will continue working with long i and move to long u words and sentences. Our big book, Jump into the Jungle, will provide the opportunity to review what we saw at the zoo and work with naming and action words. We will write to our pen pals about field day.

Reminders
  • Field day is Monday, June 2nd. Each Kindergartener will need to wear a royal blue tee shirt. The rest of the school will be wearing their gym uniforms and we need to match as close as possible. Matching elastic waist shorts would be nice but not mandatory. If you have a gym uniform that would be perfect.
