Each question asks you to look at specific links on the web site. Your answers are to be based on what you read or view; they are also to be accurate and thoughtful although not necessarily lengthy. Please use complete sentences in your answers. 1. After reading the stories of growing up white/black in the 1930's (first 2 web links), how do you think both a black woman and a white woman would respond to the question: Describe your life growing up in the 1930's. 2. Read through the Jim Crow Laws site -- look at the links under Articles and Research about the creation of a samples of the Jim Crow Laws. Then, choose one of the pictures from the link to "enforcing racial discrimination." Explain how both a white man living in the South in the 1930s and a white man living in the North in the 2000s would react to that picture--what might each say or do? If we have time in class we will put the picture up on the SmartBoard for the class to view. 4. Look through the numerous other links of photographs depicting towns in Alabama and the FSA-OWA photographs. Choose one, and describe the way of life for a person living in the setting of this photograph. You can be creative here. Certainly, you will need to identify your person/character (indicating race, age, and sex might be important), the setting, and an overall daily routine. You may set this up as a journal entry or even a skit/story of "a day in the life of ----" Remember, this is all based on the photo you have selected -- and your photo does not need to contain people. This should be at least 1/2 page with solid details -- make me feel that I know the character/person. . |
