The novel Pictures of Hollis Woods is about a young orphan girl who is placed with many different foster families. She is on a journey to find a place she can call home. It is a wonderful story of girl trying to find her place in the world.

This novel is a wonderful read. It tells a story of a group of young friends that must deal with the problems of everyday life and the issues that surround living during WWII. It is interesting and does a great job of letting the reading see into the special friendships people create during their youth.

In this book Pauch stress the importance of overcoming the obstacles that detour us from achieving our goals each day. The book is all about doing your best and never giving up. Even when Pauch is diagnosed with terminal cancer he never gives up, has a positive attitude, and thinks everyone should live each day to its fullest, because "time is all you have . . . and you may find one day you have less than you think."
