Questions to Research

2.  How did the "Civil War Amendments" lead to the development of Black Codes and Jim Crow laws?
3.  Analyze the conflicting opinions:
a.  The Civil War was about states' rights.
b.  The Civil War was about slavery.

Remember that your group must take careful notes, including where you receive the answers to the questions posed.  All websites must be documented in the source page.

Once you have answered the three questions listed above, continue your research on the following topics:
1.  Fort Sumter
2.  Civil War Battles:  Investigate four from the list provided
a.  Shiloh
b.  First Bull Run
c.  Second Bull Run
d.  Antietam
e.  Gettysburg
f.  Hampton Road (Monitor and the Merrimac)
g.  Sherman's March to the Sea

3.  Generals:  Investigate two Union generals and two Confederate generals.

Display Board

Once you have completed and shared your research with me, begin working on the display board. The display board must include the following:

1.  A title
2.  The names of each group member
3.  Pictures, maps, and brief explanations of what is shown.
4.  Each item must be clearly labeled.
5.  A source page

Presentation

Each group will present their display board to the class.  All group members must share equally in the presentation and be prepared to answer questions posed by the class or me.

Paper

Each student must write a brief paper discussing the three questions posed at the beginning of this project.  The paper must be written in the following format:

1.  Cover with one picture or graphic and title (centered).   Name, date, and circle number should be in the lower righthand corner.
2.  Font should be Times New Roman, size 12.
3.  Paper must be double spaced.
4.  No contractions or personal pronouns used.
5.  A source page must be included.

Substantial class time will be provided for the research portion and the display board assembly. Individual papers should be written at home.  The entire project must be completed by April 7, 2006.
