Biography: Edgar Degas was born on July 19, 1834, in Paris France. Despite his desire to paint he began to study law, but broke off his studies in 1853.  He was a French realist and impressionistic painter and sculptor, who was best known for his ballet dancers.  Edgar Degas died on September 27, 1917.
