Band and Strings

St. Joan of Arc Instrumental Music Program

Instrumental Music is open to all St. Joan of Arc students in grades 3 through 8.  No prior musical experience is required to participate in this fun, elective program which offers opportunities for Band as well as Orchestra.  Both the Band and Orchestra Instrumental Programs are directed by Mr. Dan Anderson, with a goal to create musicianship, teamwork, discipline, and musical enjoyment among its members.  The Instrumental Music program provides an opportunity for small group lessons during the school day as well as participation in larger Band or Orchestra sessions.  All lessons and sessions are held every week during the academic school year, and are provided at the Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced levels.  Students participating in this program are given varied musical opportunities for performances including main concerts at Christmas and in the Spring, all-school masses, community out-reach performances, school functions, pep-rallies, eighth Grade graduation, as well as other opportunities available throughout the academic year and those made by special requests by teachers.

Students have the opportunity to learn an instrument for the first time or to continue studying an instrument they have already started.  Band Instrument options are Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Drums, and Percussion instruments.  Students are instructed in small groups with others learning the same instrument, which builds camaraderie and a fun and challenging way to progress in their music education.

St. Joan of Arc School is one of the few Catholic Elementary Schools in the Diocese to offer a String program in addition to the Band program.  Students are offered the opportunity to learn violin, viola, and cello.  Students are given the opportunity to play within small string ensembles as well as within an orchestra setting with wind, brass, and percussion instruments.

Students may register for Band or String programs at the beginning of the school year via forms available online and at the school office.  A fee is required for participation in these programs which run through the entire academic year, including small and large group lessons, a custom-designed T-shirt, awards, and group party at the end of the year.  Parents are encouraged to contact Mr. Dan Anderson with any questions regarding the St. Joan of Arc Instrumental Music Program.
